Warning: Beaver pictures under the cut. Dead beaver.

So it could get to the middle line. :-(

Close up of the tail. To prove it really was a beaver.
It looks like I was posing with the trophy animal I just killed, but I swear we didn't kill the beaver!

How did the beaver get to the edge of the road, you ask?

Dustin poked (okay, rolled) the beaver to the sidelines. We didn't want it to get run over anymore (even though it was dead), and since a lot of animals are scavengers and eat roadkill, I didn't want any other animals to have to fight traffic for their food. Tis the circle of life. It's sad this beaver died, but at least he'll provide lots of other animals with food.
Yes, that beaver is freakin' huge. Not quite bear size, but nearly the size of my 120 pound dog's torso.
And then we had to get the truck unstuck. lol. Luckily, Dad came (we weren't too far from the house) with chains and they hooked up Dustin's truck to Dad's Durango and pulled him out. Muddy grass can be a bitch to get out of!
We went back to the house to help Dad put away the tools and they bonded over powerwinches and creative theories on how to get vehicles out of the mud. Weirdos. I just marveled at my beaver pics.

Date: 2005-02-25 05:23 pm (UTC)I had a teacher in high school who collected pictures of roadkill. He's my inspiration. My friend Amy and I drove around (okay, I drove, because she didn't have her license yet) and took pictures of roadkill for him. We made him a nice string of garland out of it. :-)

Date: 2005-02-25 12:18 pm (UTC)Are you sure it wasn't one of the animals that was driving the truck? Or maybe it was like Skippy..."What's that skip? You want me to run over that badger in my truck?"
i'm just surprised it's warm enough to allow Dustin to wear shorts and no socks.

Date: 2005-02-25 05:16 pm (UTC)It was pretty warm last night! When I told him we were going to go visit the beaver, he threw on his shorts (his jeans were in the wash) and slipped on some shoes. I had my Birkenstocks on and my feet weren't chilly at all! It was a very pleasant night to go roadkill hunting.

Date: 2005-02-25 03:03 pm (UTC)Y'all are so sweet to move it out of the way. A beaver is still an animal, and it still has dignity!!!
Y'all are so funny, hahaha!!
I love the trophy photo and the one of Dustin 'poking' the beaver.
Hahaha!

Date: 2005-02-25 05:14 pm (UTC)I couldn't bear to think about the creature getting hit again, so we figured the only thing to do would be to get it out of the middle of the road. Poor thing. :-( At least he won't get pulverized anymore.

Date: 2005-02-25 05:43 pm (UTC)I have a pair of rubber gloves in my car that I use just for picking up roadkill. Unfortunately, we were in Dustin's truck. So he used a stick.
