FYI: LiveJournal is getting rid of the "Basic" (no ads) account.
Everyone who has a free account now still has a free account. However, everyone who chooses to create a new LJ will have to choose between Paid and Plus (with ads).
brad's journal goes into a good description of this and also relates how he feels about it.
