When raccoons are born, they're pretty awkward animals. It's not until they're about a month old that they really start to walk, and even then it's pretty clumsy. In the interest of getting my oldest girl some practice walking, I've been letting her stumble walk around the house. At this age, she's not into exploring yet, so she tries to stay as close to me as possible. This makes for some pretty entertaining moments. :-)

Oh my. How adorable. Look at her little legs sliding out from under her. Are raccoons at this age still...I can't figure out a way to say it...nice (for lack of better word) to humans?

The funny thing is, she doesn't walk much better on the rugs when her legs aren't sliding out from under her! She's just that awkward.

Because I have to have so much hands-on time with them, they're still extremely friendly. They LOVE to be held, scratched, and cuddled, and will suck on my finger for hours if I let them. Once they are old enough to go to the outdoor habitat (which won't be for another month and a half or so), they'll start to lose the desire to be with humans. They probably will never get *mean* with me, but they will definitely become uncomfortable around humans, and will hiss at others who walk in the habitat (they will just barely tolerate me because I provide their food).

So, while they're still babies and young juveniles, they'll be very friendly. Even if they wanted to, they don't have the teeth to bite me right now anyhow. ;-)

She is angry that I keep walking away from her! I don't blame her, though - when I was learning how to swim and my mom kept walking further down the pool, I got pissed at her, too.

Now, she screeches to be let out of her cage so she can run all around the house. Sometimes, she'll stumble upon one of our cats and decide to follow it. The cats aren't too pleased, so they run away from her, which makes her scream and run even faster. lol

ADORABLE!!!

Want to know another cutely sad and HILARIOUS animal learning to get its legs? Baby CAMELS! OMG! There was this 1.5-2 month old camel that would love to hang out with its mom where we take our kids in our groups for a 5 minute ride. Yeah. The kids go NUTS. Anyway... camels naturally caravan. But this baby is still learning. So when everyone else would get up to follow in a line, rider or not, the baby would stay in the sand for awhile. Then, she'd realize "hey! mom's gone!" and go RUNNING to catch up. By running, I mean a funky hop-skip-jump-sashay-OMG LEGS SPLAYED OUT-crazy-dance. It's the funniest, most pathetic thing EVER. :) But, alas, I never filmed it. :(

OMG, I cannot even imagine how adorable a baby camel would be as they learn how to walk! They have such long, gangly legs!
