I've had a busy weekend. On Friday I took my last exam and packed up and came home. I left everything in my bedroom and then went to Outback with my family for dinner, only to return to find my hamster cage on the floor from where the cats knocked it over, and no hamster in sight. It's been two days and I still haven't found the little booger. I just hope she doesn't starve to death 'cause that'd be inhumane, but I won't be heartbroken if I don't find her again, either. She's a bitchy little hamster.

Yesterday I went with my aunts and my cousins to some fancy girly luncheon place and ate lunch and celebrated my aunt's birthday. She gave me more drugs. Yea for drugs. After lunch, we went to the wedding dress store where Laura's dress is so she could put it on and let everyone gush. It's a gorgeous dress. Some of the dresses in there were really frilly and lacey and junk...defintely not what I'm looking for. But her's isn't too lacy or frilly or anything. Then we came home and I went into Decatur to meet Christin for dinner and pick up the fish from her. The rest of the night was spent transporting the fish to my house, cleaning out the tank, and loading the fish back in it. Unfortunately, our flourescent light finally died, so I've got to go get another one soon. I spent several hours on the phone last night with Dustin, which was nice, since he's not in town this weekend. :-(

Today I woke up at noon, then ran errands for most of the day. I returned a book to Borders, picked up a new flourescent light in hopes of fixing the fish light (nope), and dropped off mine and Mom's engagement rings to be appraised. Her prongs were loose so they'll be fixing those, as well. Mom said she feels naked without her e-ring on and I have to agree. I've put my promise ring back on that finger, but it feels funny because it's not as heavy or thick as my e-ring band. Alas, they'll be ready on Wednesday, and then we'll feel normal again. Or at least, as normal as we were before.

I went to Valvoline today to get my oil changed, and much to my surprise, [livejournal.com profile] obliviousbobby was working today! So he changed my oil and made my car happy again. AND he gave me a discount. 'Cause he's absolutely awesome. I called Dustin out of excitement that I got to see Bobby and he was so nice to my credit card, and I told Dustin that if he ever kicks the bucket, Bobby shall be my replacement husband. Yesh.

Anyhow, then I came home and cleaned out the attic a little bit. We have so many old boxes up there and styrofoam pieces from computer and printer boxes that it's just gotten to be a mess. I carted over 9 garbage bags full of trash out of there, and I hope to clean up more this week. It's such a mess up there! I found the partial remnents of some animal, although I'm not sure what. Raccoon, maybe? Definitely a putrid smell, definitely something dead, and definitely not a squirrel (wrong coloring). I didn't clean it up, though. lol Then I went over to the farm for dinner, then came back and watched The Simpons while cutting the cat's claws and putting blue Soft Paws on them. They're not too happy with me at the moment, though. Oops.

Tomorrow will be spent at the farm, doing some computer work for my grandmother and baking tons of Christmas cookies!

Possibly, except I haven't seen any blood or signs of struggle. Besides, I don't think they'd eat the entire body.

i dunno. my mom feeds my kitty whole mice, quail, and chicks(yeah, it's gross, but they're already dead and frozen. i just don't watch), and she usually eats the whole thing. sometimes two.

lol. I don't think the nuvaring ships very well- it has to be kept within certain temperatures or else it loses it's effectiveness.

I gave Alcott a very long bath today (I found a flea on him, so I used the flea shampoo but it smells horrible so I followed it with baby shampoo) then clipped all his nails and put soft paws on the front and back nails (I'm tired of him ripping holes in my shirt when he tries to jump on me).
He hates me.
I remember you had a flea disaster a while back-- is there any one shampoo or treatment thats best? This is just generic, run of the mill flea shampoo.

I used Addams Flea shampoo (in the blue bottle). That seems to work the best. Also, for long-term flea control, I used Purrscriptions flea treatment, which you put on their shoulder blades once a month (like Frontline). You can get it at any pet store. If you have a huge flea problem, you'll probably have to flea bomb the house.

It's (thankfully) the only time I've seen a flea on him or anywhere in the house, and it was just one, so I won't panic yet. I'm actually hoping to take him to the vet tommorrow-- he's been sneezing like crazy and despite giving him a wormer, there's still a little blood in his poo. Too much information, I know. But I thought I'd share.
He, like Ping and Kudzu, is grateful that I have constructed a 6 foot cat toy in the living room.

Has he climbed all the way up the tree? Some cats do that, although, thankfully, mine do not. But they're perfectly happy taking down the ornaments and delivering them all over the house.

Hopefully the fleas won't become a bigger problem. Most likely, they just traveled inside 'cause it's cold outside and they want to live. Selfish bastards.

I hope he feels better! He may just need a dose of antibiotics or something. :-(

I don't think he climbed up the tree, rather than jumped on the dresser than jumped from there onto the tree. He knows he's not supposed to be on it-- he never goes near it when I'm home. But I find suspiciously flattened portions and large chunks missing ornaments.

Die fleas, die.

I'm very scared that I'll take him to the vet and he'll need something ridiculously expensive :(

Ha ha. Smart cat.

It shouldn't be that expensive. Usually seeing the vet is more expensive than the treatment. If it's just a cold, just like in humans, there really isn't much you can do. If it looks like he has an infection, he'll get on some antibioitics. But antibiotics through the vet's office cost like...$10-$15. Nothing very expensive.

Allrighty... so the soft claws thing. Sean and I have discussed them. Doesn't it bother the cat that they can't retract their claws into the little sheaths? Does it hurt them at all?

Date: 2005-12-19 07:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lizzie.livejournal.com
They can still retract their claws. The soft paws stick out a little bit, but no more than the normal claws do. My cats don't seem to mind them- they hate it when I put them on, but they also hate it when I cut their claws, too. I don't think it hurts them, I just think they hate me playing with their claws. lol

Alcott will occasionally pick at his, especially when I first put them on, but once they're on they're great. What Elizabeth said is right-- Alcott hates me messing with his paws period, so it really doesn't matter if I'm putting soft paws on or not. Usually I replace the soft paws as they fall off-- the only time it really sucks for both me and Alcott is when I order a new color or something so I cut the entire old set of them off so the new ones all match (vanity just a tad).
I highly reccommend them though. Its nice to know I can be gone for hours and hours and he won't get bored and start shredding things.
