I've decided that it's much easier to apartment hunt in a town you've lived in your entire life, than to visit a new town and find the best price/location/square footage in that area.
That being said, I've been apartment searching in Tennessee/Kentucky all week long. I've got it down to three prospects. They all say the apartments "go fast" so if we want it we should put our $200ish down payment on it now. Plus the $50 application fee.
I hate being pressured by apartment people. If I hear "They're going fast" one more time, I'm going to crap on that person's doorstep.
Dustin and I have been figuring out the logistics of the move. I'm going back to Atlanta early next week, where I will continue/finish packing up the apartment into 3 categories: 1) Things that go to Dustin's new apartment up here (300 miles away), 2) Things that will go to my dorm room in late August, and 3) Things that will go to my parents basement for storage. Categories 2 and 3 will be moved to the parental unit's basement, though I need to separate the stuff so it's easier for me to move into the dorms later. The majority of the stuff will be coming up here, so we're trying to figure out the best way to transport everything. I hate to spend money on a UHaul, but that looks like the best option so far. I'd drive up with a carload of stuff, Dustin and I would drive back to Atlanta in his truck, then we'd rent a UHaul trailer and tow it back up here on his truck. We just have too much big furniture now to move everything in his truck (even if we make several trips). Blah.
It's weird driving around here and knowing that in a little over a year, I'll be moving up here, too. It's a nice area. It's not a big town, but it's not tiny, either. There's a mall and shopping centers, and Nashville is only 40 minutes away. But it's not Atlanta. It's hard to imagine myself living here, when all my life I've always pictured myself living on the farm. I just keep telling myself this is only temporary, and a few years from now we'll be back in Atlanta and everything will be loverly again.
In the meantime, I'll be living in a military town, driving my station wagon with bumper stickers that go against this towns entire belief system: "Say no to war", "Save the wildlife", and "Human Equality."

Date: 2005-07-10 06:56 pm (UTC)I did get really excited the other day because Dustin and I were in the WalMart parking lot and I saw a car with a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker. I almost wrote a note and put it on their windshield that said "Thank God I'm not alone!" lol

Apartment Person: They're going fast!
Batgirl: (craps on doorstep)
Batgirl: (points to crap on the doorstep) This one won't be anymore! ha!
Apartment Person: ....
(everyone else pulls out, Batgirl gets apartment on the cheap)
In any case, good luck in the new town, but I hope you get to back to Atlanta later on!

Date: 2005-07-10 04:06 am (UTC)I"m sure if you put a "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" sticker somewhere on ur car no one will mind the ohter stuff. A liberal who claims they dont hate troops is just fine... ;-)

I'm going to find a nice "support our troops" sticker and put it on my car. That's a good idea. I don't want one of those ribbons (they're so dumb and overdone!), but just a nice bumper sticker would be helpful. I do support our troops, I just don't support everything we're doing.

Date: 2005-07-11 06:57 am (UTC)My driver really wants a "HOWS MY DRIVING? 1-800-I DONT GIEV A FUCK" sticker because we pretty much own the road. In the name of security and not getting blown up by roadside and car bombs, we dontl et cars too close to us and we avoid running over anything. PersonalLY I just want GA Southern flags to put on my antennas!
