Report: Iraq intelligence 'dead wrong'

The U.S. intelligence community was "simply wrong" in its assessments of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction capabilities before the U.S. invasion, a presidential commission said Thursday.

"We conclude that the intelligence community was dead wrong in almost all of its prewar judgments about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction," said a letter
from the commission to President Bush. "This was a major intelligence failure."

A Major Intelligence Failure that cost the lives of over 1,000 people.

Good going, President Shrub. You punk'd America. And killed a bunch of them, too. We have such a moron for a president. No other president, Democrat OR Republican, was ever as dumb as the one who "misunderestimated" the threat of Iraq. *head desk*

I think he should have a press conference tomorrow and say "There aren't any weapons of mass destruction! April Fool's!!111! ha ha!"

Yeah, the Democrats need a *really* good candidate for '08. Kerry wasan't the best, but he was better than the shrub.

I agree (though that doesn't mean I'll vote for them in '08). Kerry was a terrible candidate. Gore was awful. Bill Clinton is the only *good* Democratic candidate for president we've had in recent history. Regardless of my personal feelings of his presidency, he was a very smart politician. And he was one of our better presidents, in all honesty...and regardless of everything I've said of him in the past. Were it not for the scandals that went on during his time, he'd probably rank right up there with the best of them. Before Clinton, there was Dukakis, Mondale, Carter, McGovern, Humphrey....After Clinton, there was Gore and Kerry. Clinton is the only one that stands out among that entire field, which is sad. The Republicans, like them or not, have run good candidates and that's the reason they've won most the recent presidential elections--or actually most of the prez elections since Lincoln (the first Republican president).

Anyway. Yes. My pick for president in '08, Democrat or Republican, is Evan Bayh. He's a Democratic sentor from Indiana and he's awesome. I hope he runs, which there has been talk that he might.

Yeah, the candidates since Clinton have been bombs. Clinton is/was a smart man. He was a Rhodes scholar and a great speaker. I just hope the Democrats can pick things up and get someone *good* for '08. I haven't heard much about this Evan guy, although my personal pick would be Obama, but I don't know if that'd work.

I actually really like Obama too. But I think 2008 might be a little too soon for him. Maybe by 2012?

Yeah. He's young, AND he's black. And I don't know how well those two factors will help him out at this point. There are still too many racist morons out there.

Yes, which is sad. But I still think, even with those factors you mentioned, he could win on a national ticket. I would just think that 2008 might be too soon b/c he *just* got elected to the senate. Usually, presidential candidates have a good list of past careers to point to and say, "look, I did this!" :-) Obama doesn't really have anything to point to...yet. John Edwards also didn't have anything when he ran for prez and then vice prez....but of course, he did come real close to winning, so I dunno.

It'd be interesting if the candidates were Condi Rice vs Obama. Who would the racists vote for?

Silly racists.

lol, if it were between Condi and Obama, the racists would vote for Nader.

And yet Terri Schaivo was the headline on washingtonpost.com this afternoon...

I love this country.

I know. She died, but come on, we all saw it coming! Apparently Terri's life is more important than the lives of all those soldiers who died in vain?

Oh yea, I forgot!

Bush can't be totally to blame. He only acted on the information that was given to him. When pretty much all major intelligence networks within and without your country are telling you something, it's kinda hard *not* to believe that what they're telling you is accurate. If it was revealed that we had evidence regarding WMD in Iraq that Bush never acted on, every single Democrat in this country would be all over him for it. This has actually already happened...same situation, different countries--Iran and North Korea. We haven't acted on intelligence regarded those countries and Democrats (and some Republicans) have attacked Bush b/c of that.

That said, the way the war has been fought might be more of a reason to attack the president. I think I kinda agree with Kerry's position more when he said he'd send in more troops to finish the job quicker rather than draw it out for years to come.

I don't blame Bush for going to war. I blame him for the way it's been conducted up to this point.

Oh my! It's 4:00 am.
