Last nite, I captured what I *thought* was the momma for the tabby kittens. Nope. She's just another cat.

The real mom is all black, and is hovering outside the apartment trying to get to her babies. I tried to lure her in the apartment with food and a crying kitten, but to no avail. I want to catch her so I can get her spayed tomorrow and then release her again. She's *very* feral and not tame at all, but I don't want her to continue to procreate.

Anybody have good ideas for catching a cat? I'm going to call animal control and see if I can borrow one of their cat traps for the day. Whee.

I know the Athens humane society lends out its cat traps.
As mean as this sounds, if you know the mother is hovering nearby I've heard that sometimes food isn't enough- stick a kitten in the trap.

Hmm. I might contact Athens Animal Control, then, if I can't find one closer that will lend me a trap.

Well, I tried food at first, but that didn't work. The black cat would only get close enough to grab a biteful of food, then run off to eat it. So I got one of the kittens and made it cry a little bit (just by holding it, the kittens aren't friendly yet!) in hopes that that would get her inside (along with the food). She got inside the apartment, but then ran out right before I could shut the door and trap her inside. I can't explain to her that I want to reunite her with her babies and make her a happy cat! Grrr on feral cats.

First, you caught the wrong cat. "I was sure that this was the mamma" ha ha ha .

This morning when I was leaving, I thought I heard someone crying for help upstairs. When I got up there, it was a black cat meowing, I guess for her kittens. I tried to get close to her but she ran off before I could get near her.

Yeah. I'm gonna try to trap her so I can get her spayed so she can't be a baby-making machine any more!
