On the Wednesday before Christmas, Mom, Aunt Cheryl, and I went wedding dress shopping. We went to David's Bridal and found a couple of dresses that I liked, but nothing that screamed "This is it!" We went to a few other places that day, but to no avail.

So I e-mailed one of my brother's friend (and she's my friend, too) Mandi, who's getting married in Atlanta in May. She's a plus sized girl and gave me some great advice about where to go (and not to go) dress shopping in Atlanta. She suggested Silver Lining Plus, which is the same store that my aunt had found and researched, as well.

So last Monday (Dec. 26th), Mom, Aunt Cheryl, and my grandmother and I trekked over to Phipps Plaza to Silver Lining Plus. The store was a full service bridal store, with all the undergarments and tiaras and veils and such. And the dresses were gorgeous! My mom helped me dress myself (it's hard to put on a wedding gown!) in about 6 or 7 dresses until I found the perfect one. I went in there knowing what I wanted- embroidery but no lace, and not a lot of extravagent beading. Once I tried the dress on, I knew it was "The One!"

The Dress:

Silver Lining Plus just got in the dress two weeks before we visited the store. The dress is a brand new design from Venus Bridal.

The back:

The straps are a little long, so excuse the clips in the back holding the dress up!

This isn't the veil and tiara I ended up with, but it's a pretty picture anyways:

The dress comes with a wrap and a little handbag. You will see no pictures of me carrying the handbag, because it makes me look more girly than I ever want to look, even on my wedding day:

But look at that bling-bling on my finger!

My mom making me all prettified:

Close up of the tiara:

The tiara has little flowers on it, and the top of it is at a point, similar to the embroidery style on the dress.

The tiara and veil I'll be wearing:

The veil has little beaded flowers on it, along with some crystals. Ignore the bra- when the dress is tailored to fit me, they'll sew the bra in so it won't poke out like that.

I fell in love with the dress and everyone agreed it was the perfect one for me. I was worried about the price because the other dresses I had tried on at Silver Lining were over $1,000. Luckily, this one was much lower than that, so Mom put a down payment on the dress, the long-line bra, the crinoline (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] watchmebe), the tiara, and the veil. I wanted to find the tiara and veil on eBay where it would be cheaper, but Mom says there's a price to be put on having everything all at one store. Okie dokie. The dress will be delivered in 3 months and then I'll go in for alterations!

Between now and then, I need to figure out what shoes I want to wear. Originally, I had thought of going barefoot or wearing white Birkenstocks (the only type of shoes I've worn since middle school) but alas, I think I'll need to have some heel so my 5'3 tall body can handle the length of the dress. Altering the dress will take some of the length out, but if we make the dress short enough for me to be barefoot or wear no heels, I'll lose some of the embroidery on the bottom. So I'll probably have to get shoes with heels. Decisions, decisions.
