I'm being asked to petsit/housesit for 5 days for a family I've babysat for in the past. She wants to know how much I'd charge. What is a reasonable amount? They have two dogs and two cats.

My sister has one dog and she pays me $30.00 a day. I don't know if this is low or not, now that I think about it, it does seem a little on the low side. Maybe add $10.00 per additional animal? so $60.00 a day? well, wait, taht seems a little high. How abour $50.00 a day.

I called my grandmother and she said she boards her dog for $18/day. So for two dogs, that'd be $36/day to board them. That's be $180 for the 5 days they're gone. Not including the two cats they have.

I wouldn't mind doing it for cheap (like, $10/day), except I'll be using more gas that week than normal to get back and forth from their house to school/work, so I do want *some* monetary compensation. But I don't want to ask for too much, either...

Keep in mind to that having a house sitter is really more of a service than boarding their dog. They are also going to have someone there watching after the house rather than leaving it empty and vulnerable to burglars. maybe that is why my sister pays me $30.00. I get the amil everyday, bring in the paper, basically make sure the house looks lived in. So, $10.00 a day is not enough at all! maybe settle fir $25.00?

I would say 250-300 even would be a fair price since you'll be driving and since not boarding them takes a lot off their plate.

generally, i've gotten around 150-200 dollars for a week for one or two cats... so i'd say with the addition of two dogs, 300+ is fairly reasonable. on a completely unrelated note, are you going to be in town this weekend... and is there any possibility of crashing at your place friday night to head to graduation on Saturday? I was supposed to stay with Jenny, but she unfortunately broke several bones in her foot/ankle by falling down the stairs of the bakery while holding her birthday cake (which ended up all over her). Since the doctors have sentenced her to bedrest, I don't think that will work... and all of the seniors have family crashing with them, so Katy suggested begging you... I'm willing to offer bribes, etc. if necessary, as I really want to go to graduation (and to hear Hillary speak)...
I'll try to give you a call tomorrow... or you can call my cell, 404.849.5392.
