News story of the day: First Cat Cloned in the U.S.. He sold for $50,000 to this woman who's cat died last year and she wanted a clone of him. I just don't understand the purpose of cloning, especially because the animal's personality and charater are not retained in the clone. Sure, the cat looks the same as her old one, but what if it's mean or it's very anti-social? She's out $50,000. Seems like a waste to me. Plus there are so many cats out there that are in shelters that need homes... oh well. To each his own.

I'm at work today but nobody is here. Catherine, the boss's assistant, and who also helps me out, is out this week. The lab is doing an alternate schedule thing, where half the lab has vacation this week, while the other half works, and next week they switch. My boss isn't here, but I don't know why. I know she'd be here this week, but it's 1:00 p.m. and she still hasn't shown up. I e-mailed her earlier this week and told her I'd be coming into work today. She never responded. I'm wondering if I should just leave early, because I can't exactly have a meeting with her and talk about zoo stuff if she isn't here...

From the window of a bus, Sade Law saw the man under the bridge almost every day.

She'd be riding along Peachtree Road on her way to an after-school program. And he'd be in the shadows of a bridge near the Brookhaven MARTA station, sitting on a milk crate and reading the newspaper, or sleeping.

"You could never see his face under there," says Sade, who's 11. "I wanted to see him."

She also wanted to help him. But her mom said no, the man was a stranger.
