Today, Dustin and I released 20 raccoons! It was so much fun to watch them explore their new home. :-) Check out the video!

Yes, but it took forever! At first I was worried that they weren't ready to be released yet, but once they realized how cool this thing called "nature" is, they never looked back. :-)

Actually I waited until you were looking the other way and then I "encouraged" them to leave the cage ;-D

I'm surprised at how many raccoons you can fit in those things

Me too, lol. They all bunch in on top of one another in the hammocks, so we essentially did the same thing. We had to make both carriers fit in the wagon (as they're too heavy to carry!), so we got creative. They didn't mind at all, thankfully!

I love how so many of them are like HOMG LET'S CLIMB TREES!

Precious! This made me tear up. Also, I was so shocked at how many continued to come out of those crates. WOW! They are bendy magical little creatures. Soooo adorable that a bunch of them followed one another. I wonder if they form relationships, and will continued to stay friends even after the release. I hope so!

Aw, thanks! :-) We stuck a bunch in each carrier because we had to take them to a remote area, so we used a wagon to transport them (they're too heavy to just carry!). The raccoons are used to sleeping in a giant pile together and on top of one another in the hammocks (they prefer to sleep all snuggled in together!), that it was easy to just put them in that way. They didn't seem to mind at all!

They form relationships and they'll stay friends for awhile after release. Usually by the spring, though - once they sexually mature - they'll split up and go their own ways.

My mom watched this on Facebook and loooooooooooooooooooooved it. She says you should start a monthly e-newsletter with raccoon updates like this [and a link to donate]. :)

Aww, I'm glad she enjoyed it! A monthly e-newsletter is a great idea! It sounds more do-able than my current method, which is "I have a website but I'm terrible about updating it." lol :-)
